By GREGORY KATZ, Associated Press Writer – Fri Feb 5, 12:39 pm ET

He lied about his age all to join the cause of serving his country. On this day, they found out that Reginald Earnshaw was the youngest British officer to die in WW II. On Friday, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission officially recognized him as the youngest British military casualty. They had been slow in recognizing him because they did not have enough evidence to find out when he was born. Reginald lied about being 15, the youngest allowable age, and was only able to serve for a couple of months before the ship SS Devon was bombarded by Germans and he was killed. He worked as a Merchant Navy cabin boy. The boy was recognized on what would have been his 82nd birthday, and his little sister, now 77, put flowers on his grave. His gravestone was unmarked, but now he has a stone marker and his sister will be able to tell them what to write on it.

This article was written because, I think, so many children died during this war. They lied about their age and joined the cause for their country. This was all facts, the authors point of view did not shine through the whole article. It showed me how serious the war really was, and how in actuality no one was safe. In the future, I think that this will be important to those who like to complain. Work is not the worst thing in the world. This child had barely entered his teenage years, when he was killed for protecting something he believed in. This serves as a true example of bravery, commitment, and resolution. It is sad, what this all shows of this history, but we must learn from our mistakes, and I pray this one will not be committed again.

Haiti gov't says children taken without permission

By FRANK BAJAK, Associated Press Writer world

Haitian police detained 10 Americans on Saturday on suspicion of trying to sneak out children without the proper papers. The 10 Americans went into custody with about 33 children while trying to go to the Dominican Republic. A man whose wife and daughter were taken told the associated press that they were not child trafficking and that they just wanted to help the children. Many U.S citizens were arrested when applying to enter the Dominican Republic with children. They were going to take the children into an orphanage they had made inside a hotel in the Dominican Republic. Haiti has put new controls on adoption since the earthquake and now requires the Prime Minister to see all children off at the airport so that no child trafficking can be avoided. Many children have been seperated or orphaned by the earthquake. The Americans are form two different churches in Idaho. ~ This article was written because of the many more problems that Haiti now has to face other than the earthquake. This was written in total seriousness so that we can know what else Haiti must worry about now. This article informed me about the much needed help that Haiti needs. In the future, I think that this will be important because it will teach us about all the precautions we must take after a natural disaster, especially one of this magnitude. This is important so that we may know what can happen and we will be able to at least try to stop it before it happens. This is just one problem, it didn't include the others that Haiti is facing now, but I think it is best that way. This way, they can inform us of things one by one and not overly do it with the information. I just hope that people will not take advantage of the situation Haiti is in so that they can gain something.

Face-Detection Cameras: Users' Racism Charges Explained

By ADAM ROSE
International

When Joz Wang bought her mother a Nikon Coolpix S630 digital camera, they seemed to have a problem with taking a picture. The camera would give them a message informing them that someone had blinked. But, when her brother posed for a picture "bug-eyed" the message disappeared and she was able to take the picture without the message popping up. Joz thought that it was funny that the camera had problems with figuring out if their eyes were open or not that she put it her blog. The Nikon Coolpix S630 digital camera has face detection, which is supposed to make taking a picture easier. In response to what Joz wrote of the camera, someone said that they would have thought that, since Nikon is a Japanese company, they would add the face detection with Asian eyes in mind. Many times in the past, a lot of companies have displayed favoritism- though unintentional- towards Caucasian faces. Another instance was when a black man working in a dealership tried to get his webcam to zoom in on him. It followed his white co-worker that passed behind him, but not on his face. He jokingly stated that it was racist. Many of the companies responded saying that they take into consideration all of their consumers. Although when questioned about how they could not seen such glitches before sending them out to sell, the companies could not answer.

I think that this article was written more because of the comedic side of the problem this software has. The author seems to have fun, and even adds in a joke of his own in the end, saying that maybe in the future the only people the camera will not be able to pick up will be that of the blue Avatars. This article was fun to read and it gave me something interesting to think about. In the future, I think it will be important, because no one wants to buy something that will not help them because of their race. If the companies cannot fix these problems, they will lose a lot of their customers and that will hurt them. Not all races are included, but i think that is because it does not have a problem with other races. I think it just goes to show you, not every piece of technology can make your life easy.
